May Repair Cafe Round-up
A huge thank you to everyone who came along to yesterday's Repair Cafe, and we missed those of you who couldn't make it.
We looked at a whopping 40 items!!!!
25 were fixed
7 couldn't be fixed
5 we provided advice on, and
3 were 'half' fixed
We also returned a further 9 items which had been repaired since the last Cafe
Thank you to Joe and Felicity for the unexpected, and delicious, cookies!
A couple of reminders:
- We once again 'tripped' the electrics in two of the sockets in the hall, and weren't able to reset them. We will be discussing this with the Centre Manager next week.
Please can we remind you that if an electrical item has not been passed as 'safe' when it comes in you must not connect it to the electric until it has been passed as being safe, and you should never work on live items. (We will update our 'Guidelines for Working on Electrical Items' to emphasise this in more detail - but would ask that in the interim everyone has a quick 'refresher' read of the current version - see attached).
- If you take a job home to work on which ultimately requires the purchase of parts (above £5), please check with us that the customer is willing to meet the cost before buying them.
Good news:
- We have been successful in obtaining grants from Central Surrey Voluntary Action, and Elmbridge Borough Council for a variety of things from our shopping list including: annual insurance, website hosting and domain name, aprons, and various tools.
- Steve has prepared a wonderful 'all encompassing' tool kit for everyone's use, using grant funding and donations. A list of its contents is available at the Cafe, or can be sent to you upon request.
- The Grange Centre in Bookham - https://www.grangecentre.org.uk/ kindly donated three sewing machines to us, which (one of our 'behind the scenes' repairers) Enid, has been valiantly bringing back into use. We are keeping one of these, and giving another to the 'Sew and Share Project' run by the Eco Hub (not quite sure about the third one as yet). We'll be making a donation to the Grange by way of a 'thank you'.
Our next Cafe will be on Saturday 14th June.
