July 26 Round-up
Well done everyone who surmounted the climatic, travel and traffic challenges to come along to the July Repair Cafe - and we missed those of you who couldn’t make it.
There were 32 of us volunteering, and 43 visitors …. So it was very, very busy (and buzzy)
We looked at 46 items, of which:
- 28 were fixed
- 6 couldn’t be fixed
- we gave advice* on 8 items, whilst
- 4 items are ‘ongoing’
*Often the advice takes the form of our identifying the problem and any parts that need to be ordered, and the customer re-booking for the full repair the following month (as in the case of the Kenwood Chef that Dick and Ilkin completed major works to yesterday)
We also returned five items (to happy very customers) which had been repaired since the June Cafe. Here’s what one of them has said:
“ What a brilliant project you’re running, in today’s throw-away culture this is truly brilliant, so thank you!”
Congratulations to Gordon who completed the ‘Youth Programme’ and has decided that he will continue with us as a repairer - along with his Dad David…. ‘Two for the price of one’! Thank you both!
Safety alert: Please remember that working on ‘live’ electrical items is not permitted - and is a risk to your, and other people’s safety. Do take a look at our ‘Guidelines when working on Electrical Items’ (which you will have received when you joined us), and get in touch if there is anything that you are uncertain about.
Great cake Cally - thank you! Really popular, and lovely to have a gluten-free option.
Light lunch - it was nice to relax and chat over a light lunch after the July cafe, our next visit to the centre will be in the new layout following refurbishment.
Quiz night - an intrepid team of repairers and admin took on the Walton Village Quiz, and the Unfixables did us proud.
The next Repair Cafe will be on Saturday 8th August - at St Andrews United Reform Church (a temporary venue while the centre is refurbished).
