May 26 Round-up

Huge thanks to everyone who made May’s Repair Cafe - greetings to those who were holidaying and get will soon to those who were not 100%!
There were 26 of us, and we welcomed 42 visitors; and we looked at 47 items:
- 28 were fully repaired;
- 5 couldn’t be fixed;
- we gave advice and/or half-fixed 8; and
- 6 jobs are ‘ongoing.

We also

- PAT tested two items that Elmbridge CAN will be donating to their users; and

- returned six successfully repaired items that were taken home from the last Cafe.

We received healthy donations from very grateful and happy customers (including those whose items couldn’t be repaired but who were still delighted to receive help, enjoy the friendly atmosphere, a cup of tea and a cake).

But … to counterbalance that sum …… we have recently paid our £173 ‘corporation tax’ bill for last year….something that is prompting us to consider changing our status from a CIC (Community Interest Company) to a charitable CIO (Community Interest Organisation).

Other news:

- Whilst we remain hopeful that we will be able offer a monthly Wednesday afternoon Cafe from the Cromwell Road Community Centre - we are still awaiting a final decision, and details (including hire charges) from the owners (PA Housing).

- Whilst we understand that Walton Charities will be taking over the ownership/management of the Walton Centre for the Community, we have no idea whether/how this will impact us.

- We will be at the Riverhouse Barn Community Day on Saturday 23rd May (open to the public from 11am to 4pm). Our focus will be on: ‘Can it be fixed? Ask a Repairer’; ‘Learn to stitch on a button’; and ‘Top tips for plugs’! Everyone welcome.

Our next Cafe will be on Saturday 13th June.
