August Round-up
‘How come it’s so busy today?’
Was the cry that we heard several times yesterday morning: and indeed it was very busy! Thank you to everyone who made it another great morning, and we missed those of you who couldn’t make it.
There were 20 volunteers and 30 visitors.
We looked at 31 jobs in total:
- Fixed 16
- Provided advice or part fixed 11, and
- Couldn’t fix 4
An additional six items (taken home from the last Cafe) have been repaired and returned.
In the battle of the electrical items… the number of radios/CD players coming in beat the number of vacuum cleaners…. 6 to 4… but it probably felt like more, since none of them proved to be ‘easy fixes’!
You may have noted that we now have our own (refurbished) iPad, courtesy of a grant from the Central Surrey Voluntary Association ‘SPARKS’ fund. We’ll be using this to manage Cafe admin and, in particular, inputting the data from the Repair Monitor forms into the international data-base. The iPad is available to use during the Cafe to check out repair video’s, information about spare parts etc (connecting to the free Wi-Fi that is available at the Centre).
You may also have seen information around the Centre about Elmbridge Council’s plans for ‘a new era of community support’ which includes changes to how the Centres for the Community are run (among other things). You can find out more about the proposals via: https://elmbridge.gov.uk/connected-communities
Our next Cafe will be on 13th September
